Golden Visa Validity, Renewal & Cancellation
How long does the Golden Visa last, and how do you renew it?
Most Golden Visas are valid for 10 years and are renewable (a few routes are 5 years). Crucially, staying outside the UAE for more than six months does not cancel it — unlike a standard visa. You renew before it expires by confirming you still meet your original category.
Staying outside the UAE
The 180-day absence rule that nullifies a standard residence visa does not apply to Golden Visa holders. You keep your residency as long as the visa has not expired — no re-entry permit needed.
Renewing your visa
Renewal usually requires confirming you still meet your eligibility category and completing updated residency procedures — which may include new documents, a medical fitness test, and renewing your Emirates ID.
